Marine firms on the Thames were involved in the nationwide On The Water at the weekend, April 27th and 28th, aimed at interesting more people in boats and boating.

Launched by the British Marine Federation, the marine industry’s trade body, On the Water encourages more people of all ages and abilities to get afloat.

Bray Marine sales who were taking part in the open day in partnership with MDL Bray reported steady interest from visitors over the two days.

Sam Long from Bray Marine Sales said: "We were very pleased with a number of sales and inquiries plus interest from people who are looking to get into boating for the first time. We did 40-odd trips on the river. We are now hoping it will be an annual event."

Experts were on hand to give advice on all aspects of boating. Sixty new and used boats were on show plus a display of kayaks. The day also featured free boat rides and information about hire boat holidays.

Further upstream at Eynsham near Oxford, Anglo Welsh also reported increased interest in hire boats. The firm laid on free boat trips, Barn Owl & Wildlife spotting, riverside walks along the Thames Path plus craft stalls.
