A 2014 calendar featuring spectacular pictures of boats and ships on the Thames has just been published.

The photos from the non-tidal river at Hampton Court to the Pool of London and the estuary are the work of photographer Rob Powell.

Gravesend-based Rob is well-known for photographing the wide range of shipping now to be seen on the Thames.

He said: "It is a fascinating time on the Thames with a whole variety of ships and boats from the Tall Ships at Greenwich to many cruise liners and then the superyachts which visited for the Olympics.

Rob has previously produced calendars of Greenwich which have included pictures of the river but this is his first wholly dedicated to the Thames. He said "I'm pleased to say it has been very well recieved with people showing a lot of interest."

Among the scenes are a stunning pictures of the cruise ship Prinsendam at Tilbury (above) and by contrast of the Queen's Rowbarge Gloriana being rowed past Hampton Court Palace.

Tower Bridge features in a night-time shot of another cruise ship, Seaborne Pride, and in a day-time picture of the paddle steamer Waverley as well as the annual Great River Race.

Tall Ships Belem and Loth Lorien are featured on different months - underlining the river's growing importance as a venue for events like Sail Royal Greenwich. 2014 will see up to 50 such sailing ships gathering for the inaugural Falmouth-Greenwich Regatta.

Navies feature with HMS Ilustrious pictured being towed through the Thames Barrier on her final visit to London before being scrapped, a Dutch submarine and a Canadian destroyer.
