A total of 54 ships have been confirmed for the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta next month.

The festival is being staged on the river from September 5th – 9th. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit the borough for the event which will also include entertainment and cultural events.

The tall ships will be moored at Maritime Greenwich, Greenwich Peninsula, Royal Arsenal Woolwich and West India Dock. It is the culmination of the Famlmouth to Greenwich tall ships regatta organised by Sail Training International.

The full programme of events during the festival has been released. Highlights include:

  • An opening evening theatrical spectacular on Friday 5 September to officially launch the Festival; Catalan street theatre group Sarruga present 'Peixos' - a stunning underwater spectacle featuring lanterns and cycle-powered machines
  • Daily sailing events along the River Thames between Greenwich and Woolwich, including Her Majesty's row barge Gloriana, with an escort of traditional rowing boats
  • Up to 1,000 Tall Ships crew will parade through the historic streets of Maritime Greenwich on Saturday 6 September
  • A special outdoor production of Bertolt Brecht's 'Mother Courage and her Children' by Greenwich and Lewisham's Young People's Theatre
  • Theatre and bandstand music pop-ups throughout the Festival
  • Traditional sea shanty singing and the chance to see displays of skilled rigging-climbing on Cutty Sark Tea Clipper
  • A range of family activities and exhibitions at the Old Royal Naval College, National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory in Greenwich
  • The chance to board magnificent Tall Ships throughout the five-day Festival
  • VIP sail experiences on board a Tall Ship up to Tower Bridge.
  • Evening firework displays in Woolwich and Greenwich, creating a stunning backdrop to the vessels.
  • A spectacular Parade of Sail climax to the Festival as the vessels depart on Tuesday 9 September.
