A Thames marina received a top commendation as the London Boat Show came to a close on Sunday (Jan 15th).
MDL’s Windsor Marina was runner-up in the The Yacht Harbour Association’s 2017 Marina of the Year awards.
The award in the Inland Marinas section followed votes by berth holders throughout he country.
Earlier Thames firms were among those exhibiting some of the 400 boats on display.
They included Bushnells of Wargrave, Tingdene who have marinas at Windsor, Reading and Walton, Bates Wharf, and MDL with marinas at Windsor and Penton Hook. Also with stands were Bisham Abbey Sailing and Navigation School, and the Little Ship Club.
Actress Joanna Lumley (above) was among the celebrities on the opening day. She said: “I think we all have a natural affinity with the sea and for exploration. I really believe that whoever gets on a boat has the spirit of adventure within them.”
Across the course of the Show, visitors saw over 100 new boats and products launched. As well as boats, there were new attractions for 2017 including the Watersports Park. Providing activities both on the water and land, this interactive area offered visitors the chance to try out some of the very latest watersports trends, including kayaking, water zorbing and Stand Up Paddleboarding.
Over the nine days, the event hosted well-known names across sailing and entertainment including Olympic gold medallist Saskia Clark, Dame Ellen MacArthur, Dee Caffari, Paralympic sailor Helena Lucas, round-the-world sailor Mike Golding and even Radio 4’s Shipping Forecast presenter, Zeb Soanes.
